35

Whewwwwww! Birthday number 35 was awesome! Turning 35 wasn't at all what I had imagined. I thought I'd be depressed and moping around all day but it was a great day. The hubs took Kaelyn to her Girl Scout event International Day while I got to get some extra zzzzzz's. The different troops picked a country and had booths set up where they would teach the other scouts about their countries. Kaelyn's troop had India. The girls dressed up in saris that her math teacher let them borrow. They also had bindis on! I'm waiting for a picture from the troop leader since parents didn't go to this event. After a breakfast of yummy coffee from Starbucks and a blueberry scone (along with some beautiful birthday flowers from the best hubby on the planet) I was up and ready to have some pampering. Got my makeup done at the MAC counter at Nordstrom's then got my nails did. My toes were absolutely disgusting. Think the last time I had them done was when Kaelyn and I went for her birthday way back in September. lol What can I say, I'm a beast! The hubs BBQ'd some steaks for dinner with the fam then it was off for drinks and dancing. If every birthday was this good I won't mind getting older!

After dinner we went to the Yardhouse to have some drinks with some of the crazy girls I work with and their hubbys. The hubs' brother and step-brother and his pal came along too. After that we went to a piano bar for more drinks and dancing. They made me get on the damn stage to make me do some stupid dance for my birthday. Luckily there is no evidence of this embarrassment! We get to celebrate all over again for the hubby's birthday in 3 weeks!!

love is in the air

A little belated Valentime's Day post. Didn't do anything exciting (or romantic) for Valentime's Day this year since we had a house full of kids. Well, only 4 kids but it seemed like more than that. Picked up the bonus kids on Saturday and made our way to the grocery store for some supplies for our yummy lasagna dinner and cupcakes. Ate some yummy food and watched Gran Torino then crashed for the night. Took the kids to Shakey's Pizza for dinner then to the movies to see Pink Panther 2 (totally stupid movie, btw). I got to be on call for work so yay for an extra day off for me! That about sums up our totally boring lives around here.

i love this guy

mmmmmmmmm cuppycakes!

the kids were all gung-ho about decorating but only KK ended up helping...the rest of them got bored and took off....ppppfffffttt!

Why do we say Valentime's Day? Guess it has to do with the fact that it annoys the crap out of me and the hubs when people mispronounce the word Valentine. It's like nails on a chalkboard so we started saying it to be funny. As I've said before, yes we are dorks.

the biggest loser

Dammit this blog is turning into a mini-diary. I decided to join a bunch of us fatasses at work in a friendly competition of losing weight, dubbed The Biggest Loser. We've been melting away since Jan 5. The competition ends at the end of March. So far I've lost 11 pounds. Not bad for someone that's not really dieting or counting calories. I'm mostly just watching what I'm eating, not drinking soda or using artificial sweeteners (ok recently I had some iced tea with splenda). After a failed attempt at doing the South Beach Diet I'm back to doing what works best for me, Weight Watchers. Between the 7 or so of us, we've lost between 10-22 pounds!! Not bad! The winner gets the pot 'o money (about $200), a massage courtesy of our beloved anesthesiologist and some other goodies donated by some of our other OBs. At this point, I doubt I'm going to win but trying to lose weight with the other girls has definitely kept me motivated and has prevented me from stuffing my fat face all night at work.

Another thing to report-Operation Save all Receipts and Make Timely Returs remains in full effect!!! My receipt file is bursting with glorious receipts and all my store returns were made on time! I know the hubs is rolling his eyes at me at this point but I don't care. One day that receipt from Starbucks will come in handy!! ;)

i love california....

..because the snow is way up on the mountains and not in my driveway. Last week brought some much needed rain to us here in southern California. Freezing temps + rain = beautiful scenery. It's been raining today too so I'm sure there will be even more snow in the mountains. Us Californians aren't used to temps in the 40's-50's during the day so we're freezing here!

this was taken while driving up the hill to have our taxes done...no law yet against photographing and driving

It's been kinda boring around here at the R/H household. KK had a singing performance at her school last week. Her fellow 5th graders sang Reach Out & Touch, We Are One, Harmony, her school song and 900 Miles. Me being the bad mother that I am left the camera at home. (oops) Also took the kids to see Coraline and Mall Cop, taxes (ugh), and general laziness. Guess the rain does that to us. Next up, Valentime's Day (inside joke-I really know how to spell Valentine's), getting older and a new family member.

oh and here's a pic of Drew with his report card...no lip ring yet, still hoping he changes his mind ;)
