This has taken me forever to post!! We took a trip out to Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles recently. It was a nice sunny winter day, despite the thick layer of smog you could see from the observation deck. You can actually see Catalina Island from up there! The hubs remembers going there for a field trip in elementary school. Remembered something about picnic benches and running down some hills after they had their lunch. I remember going up with my brother some time in high school but that's it. I suffer from a bad case of CRS so it's a struggle to remember anything. What was I talking about? Oh yes, the observatory. It was really interesting to learn some new things about planets and our solar system and about the observatory itself. Did you know that it's named after Griffith J. Griffith?? Yes, his parents named him that. That's child abuse in my book, but anywho. They did a massive rebuild and had to actually lift the entire building to build underneath! They weren't even sure it would work but obviously it did. Got to watch a couple cool shows and saw Venus at night through the big telescope. I was hoping for more detail but Venus just looked like a huge bright star. We left before we could see the moon a little closer. We plan on taking the kids back soon, think they would get a kick out of it.
